Visiting the Great Smoky Mountains in the Fall is a must do for anyone’s bucket list. The Great Smoky Mountains are truly one of the most magical places this country has to offer. Anytime you visit you’ll see a side of the park that will feel brand new to you. My absolute favorite time of year is the fall. The cooler air and change of colors is so welcome after the warm Summer days. Views of oranges, reds, and yellows blanket the hills of the Smoky Mountains during the peak of the Fall Foliage. The beauty alone is enough of a reason to make the trip, but there are many other great things to see while exploring the area. Our National Park is the #1 visited park in the United States and our community welcomes 11 Million visitors a year. A time of year dear to everyone’s heart are these fall months.
This is the perfect time of year to pack up breakfast and lunch and make your way over to Cades Cove to spend the day relaxing and enjoying this incredible time of year. Cades Cove is an 11 mile loop located in the National Park that is accessible by car. There are many places to pull off and stretch your legs and tour the historic structures that have been preserved so you can see exactly how our communities began. It’s the perfect window into how the settlers of the 1800’s lived in the homesteads. Old Churches are also located in Cades Cove. Many times as a kid I came across congregations singing at the altar of these beautiful establishments. We would take a seat on one of the pews and enjoy the beautiful music. I was always told the acoustics in the old churches were some of the best. Historic buildings are not the only thing you may see during your visit. A variety of East Tennessee wildlife, including Black Bear, Deer, Turkeys, and so many more animals can be seen doing their daily activities in this nature rich area. I love seeing Black Bears and their cubs climbing trees and going about their day. It is incredible to have the opportunity to observe these marvelous and intelligent creatures, but we must remember to be respectful of their habitat and not approach them while on the trails.
Another wonderful way to enjoy this one of a kind experience is bicycling the loop. This is a very popular activity among many visitors and locals. Bike rentals are available at the Cades Cove Welcome Center, but they do run out very quickly. So make sure you plan ahead. You may ride your bike through the loop anytime, but the best time is when they close the loop to cars on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. The loop at that time is strictly open to bicyclist. There is nothing like experiencing a peaceful sunrise breaking over the Smoky Mountains as their beauty is enhanced with each ray of sunshine. This is a wonderful way to become acquainted with nature while taking in the beauty we are blessed with in this area.
After spending some much needed time enjoying the mountains it’s so easy to join us in Pigeon Forge for our entertainment and shopping area full of attractions and events. I am so happy to live in this area and be able to let my daughter enjoy the fun and entertainment in our town. Our Family Fun days are filled with go cart races, arcade games, smiles from ear to ear, and a day full of laughter. These are memories that will be cherished forever, and we are here to help provide your family with those same memories.
Pigeon Forge has shows that cater to every taste, and many of them offer our guests some amazing discounts. The Country Tonite Show happens to be a favorite of mine because they have such variety in their entertainment. Comedy, dancing, and singing are all included in their show and the whole family will enjoy. The best part is they offer our guests a buy one get one free ticket! You can not beat that deal! It is the best one around. We are happy to help you decide on what shows and attractions you will enjoy the most and point in the right direction to the best deals.
Another wonderful way to enjoy our area is taking in our abundance of local artisans and Appalachian craft at the The Gatlinburg Craftsmen’s Fair. This is one of the most popular events held in this area and brings many of the visitors to Gatlinburg during this time. The Fair starts the First of October and runs through the month with entertainers, artisan booths , and handmade crafts. The Craftsmen’s Fair is definitely an all day event !
The Great Smoky Mountains offer a great deal of beauty and fun when you visiting the area, and of course River Plantation RV Resort has its fair share! Our resort is located on 42 acres nestled along the peaceful little Little Pigeon River. The fun is available year round with the vast amount of amenities we offer. Our pools and lazy river are closed for the season, but we do leave our hot tub open year round for your relaxation. It is the perfect place to relax your muscles after a long hike in the national park. Our basketball and pickleball courts are fairly new to our resort, and are a very popular addition. Ever heard of GaGa Ball? I bet your kids have. We added the Ga Ga ball pit at the playground area and the kids will not let you pass it by without stopping for a game! We have many more wonderful activities that will keep the family busy all day long, and give you a nice peaceful place to relax and unwind.
Whether you choose Camping Cabin with the perfect front porch and rocking chairs to sit and relax and take in the Fall Crisp air of the Great Smoky Mountains, or one of our RV spots, it is also perfect weather to sit around the campfire with your family and enjoy your evenings and roasting marshmallows. We have some of the most spacious campsites in the area and provide you with water, electric, sewer, and we even provide Cable TV.
We would love to get the opportunity to have you and your family join us the Fall and find out what our resort and the area have to offer this time of year. There is nothing like Fall in the Great Smoky Mountains.
